The studio

A short drive from Bangor to a proper pro shop.

Bangor sits at Junction 11 on the A55 — 40 minutes eastbound to Abergele on a clear road, half an hour in summer when the traffic thins. That drive is why Bangor players who want a proper fitting or a Trackman-backed lesson come to Stuart Runcie Golf: the nearest equivalent studio is a lot further.

St Deiniol Golf Club above the city is the natural home course for LL57 players — parkland, tight, with the Menai Strait as a view. What St Deiniol does not have is a full custom-fitting bay, so most Bangor players who care about their equipment either drive to Abergele or accept the compromise of a shop-floor purchase.

The 40-minute drive is worth it for a specific reason. A Trackman 4 fit takes about 60-90 minutes and covers every parameter that matters — ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, dispersion, club path, face angle. You leave with a spec sheet and clubs that match how you actually swing, not what the display looked like on a Saturday morning. The £100 fitting fee refunds in full against any set ordered on the day.

Bangor is also the home of a strong junior golf scene — Anglesey Junior Golf Foundation and county-level pathways run through the area. Stuart's TPI Junior Level 2 accreditation is the top level of TPI's youth-specific certification and one of very few held in North Wales.

Coastal-cluster note: Bangor sits at the western end of the A55 coastal corridor. Bangor players are the same drive time from the studio as players from Anglesey and about 10 minutes further than Caernarfon.

The tech stack

The same tools tour pros train on.

Three technologies working together — ball flight, biomechanics and ground force. Numbers, not guesswork.

Trackman 4

Dual-radar launch monitoring. Reads ball speed, spin, launch angle, club path and face angle at impact — every ball.

K-Motion 3D

Full-body biomechanics capture. Maps pelvis, thorax and lead-arm sequencing so the swing gets fixed, not just the impact.

BodiTrak

Pressure plate ground-force analysis. Shows where your weight sits and moves through the swing — critical for consistent strike.

Common questions

Everything golfers ask before they book.

How far is Stuart Runcie Golf from Bangor?
About 40 minutes on the A55 eastbound. Join the A55 at Junction 11 in Bangor, hold it for 13 junctions, exit at Junction 24 for Abergele. The studio is inside Abergele Golf Club, five minutes from the slip road.
Is there anywhere closer to Bangor for custom club fitting?
Not with the same tool stack — the closest studio with Trackman 4, K-Motion 3D biomechanics and BodiTrak pressure plates all on-site is Stuart Runcie Golf at Abergele, 40 minutes east on the A55.
Do you take complete beginners?
Yes. Around a third of new bookings are people who have never held a club. The first session is about building a repeatable motion you can trust, not fixing a swing that does not exist yet.
What is included in a custom fit?
A full custom fit uses Trackman 4 dual-radar launch monitoring, BodiTrak pressure plates and K-Motion 3D biomechanics. Fittings run 60–90 minutes. The £100 fitting fee is refundable in full against any set of clubs ordered on the day.
How much do lessons cost?
One-to-one lessons start at £45 for 45 minutes. Block bookings of six lessons discount to £240. Junior lessons are separately priced from £25.
Are the coaches PGA qualified?
Stuart Runcie is a PGA Fellow Professional — the PGA's highest tier — and holds a rare TPI certification stack combining Level 3 and Junior Level 2. Only four golf professionals in the UK hold this exact combination.
Can I book online?
