The studio

A short drive from Betws-y-Coed to a proper pro shop.

Betws-y-Coed Golf Club is a stunning short parkland course tucked into Snowdonia's Conwy Valley — one of the most photogenic golf settings in Wales. Players from LL24 who want to lower a handicap or buy new clubs face a specific challenge: no fitting studio inside the National Park. Stuart Runcie Golf, 35 minutes north on the A470, is the nearest full-service option.

The drive is scenic and quick. Head north on the A470 through the Conwy Valley, join the A55 westbound at Junction 19, exit at Junction 24 for Abergele. Alternative in busier summer traffic: A5 to Betws, A470 to Llanrwst, then across the moor to Colwyn Bay for the same time.

A short parkland course like Betws-y-Coed rewards precision iron play more than length off the tee. That makes an iron gapping session on Trackman particularly high-value — knowing your carry number for each iron under different lie conditions transforms scoring. A Trackman session takes about 60 minutes and prints a spec sheet you can walk out with.

Full custom-fitting sessions are £100, refunded in full against any set of clubs ordered on the day. Every major brand is held for demo. For coaching, Stuart holds PGA Fellow Professional rank and the combined TPI Level 3 + Junior Level 2 stack — one of only four in the UK.

Betws is also part of the Snowdonia junior golf scene. The studio's TPI Junior Level 2 pathway welcomes young players from Snowdonia primary and secondary schools; several have progressed onto county-level squads.

The tech stack

The same tools tour pros train on.

Three technologies working together — ball flight, biomechanics and ground force. Numbers, not guesswork.

Trackman 4

Dual-radar launch monitoring. Reads ball speed, spin, launch angle, club path and face angle at impact — every ball.

K-Motion 3D

Full-body biomechanics capture. Maps pelvis, thorax and lead-arm sequencing so the swing gets fixed, not just the impact.

BodiTrak

Pressure plate ground-force analysis. Shows where your weight sits and moves through the swing — critical for consistent strike.

Common questions

Everything golfers ask before they book.

How long is the drive from Betws-y-Coed to Stuart Runcie Golf?
About 35 minutes on a clear road. Head north on the A470 through the Conwy Valley, join the A55 westbound at Junction 19, exit at Junction 24 for Abergele. The studio is inside Abergele Golf Club, five minutes from the slip road.
Is there a custom-fitting studio in Snowdonia?
Not with the full tool stack — the closest studio with Trackman 4, K-Motion 3D and BodiTrak on-site is Stuart Runcie Golf at Abergele, 35 minutes north of Betws-y-Coed on the A470.
Do you take complete beginners?
Yes. Around a third of new bookings are people who have never held a club. The first session is about building a repeatable motion you can trust, not fixing a swing that does not exist yet.
What is included in a custom fit?
A full custom fit uses Trackman 4 dual-radar launch monitoring, BodiTrak pressure plates and K-Motion 3D biomechanics. Fittings run 60–90 minutes. The £100 fitting fee is refundable in full against any set of clubs ordered on the day.
How much do lessons cost?
One-to-one lessons start at £45 for 45 minutes. Block bookings of six lessons discount to £240. Junior lessons are separately priced from £25.
Are the coaches PGA qualified?
Stuart Runcie is a PGA Fellow Professional — the PGA's highest tier — and holds a rare TPI certification stack combining Level 3 and Junior Level 2. Only four golf professionals in the UK hold this exact combination.
Can I book online?
