The studio

A short drive from Ruthin to a proper pro shop.

Ruthin-Pwllglas Golf Club sits south of Ruthin proper — a friendly, hilly parkland test that rewards consistent iron play more than length off the tee. Players from LL15 who want to lower a handicap tend to hit the same wall: local practice facilities do not include a launch monitor, and buying clubs on the high street rarely produces a proper match. That is what Stuart Runcie Golf, 30 minutes down the A525, exists to fix.

The drive is straightforward. A525 north through Denbigh, join the A55 eastbound at Junction 27 or take the A548 coast road, exit at A55 Junction 24 for Abergele. Studio is inside the golf club, five minutes from the slip road.

Ruthin players get the most from a full iron gapping session. Pwllglas has short holes where a tight yardage matters more than a big carry — knowing your 7-iron and 8-iron actually deliver 143 and 132 yards rather than 148 and 138 (which is what many players think, and what the wrong shafts produce) transforms the scorecard. Trackman 4 reads each iron three times and the studio prints you the numbers on the way out.

Fitting fee is £100, refunded in full against any set of clubs ordered on the day. Titleist, TaylorMade, PING, Callaway, Cobra, Mizuno all held for demo. Coaching is delivered by Stuart Runcie, a PGA Fellow Professional and one of only four UK pros holding the combined TPI Level 3 + Junior Level 2 stack.

The tech stack

The same tools tour pros train on.

Three technologies working together — ball flight, biomechanics and ground force. Numbers, not guesswork.

Trackman 4

Dual-radar launch monitoring. Reads ball speed, spin, launch angle, club path and face angle at impact — every ball.

K-Motion 3D

Full-body biomechanics capture. Maps pelvis, thorax and lead-arm sequencing so the swing gets fixed, not just the impact.

BodiTrak

Pressure plate ground-force analysis. Shows where your weight sits and moves through the swing — critical for consistent strike.

Common questions

Everything golfers ask before they book.

How long does it take to get from Ruthin to Stuart Runcie Golf?
About 30 minutes. Take the A525 north through Denbigh to St Asaph, then either the A55 eastbound or A548 coast road to Abergele. Exit at A55 Junction 24. The studio is inside Abergele Golf Club, five minutes from the slip road.
Do Ruthin-Pwllglas Golf Club members book at Stuart Runcie Golf?
Yes — a number of Ruthin-Pwllglas members use the studio for regular lesson blocks and custom fittings, since the nearest full launch-monitor studio is the Abergele setup.
Do you take complete beginners?
Yes. Around a third of new bookings are people who have never held a club. The first session is about building a repeatable motion you can trust, not fixing a swing that does not exist yet.
What is included in a custom fit?
A full custom fit uses Trackman 4 dual-radar launch monitoring, BodiTrak pressure plates and K-Motion 3D biomechanics. Fittings run 60–90 minutes. The £100 fitting fee is refundable in full against any set of clubs ordered on the day.
How much do lessons cost?
One-to-one lessons start at £45 for 45 minutes. Block bookings of six lessons discount to £240. Junior lessons are separately priced from £25.
Are the coaches PGA qualified?
Stuart Runcie is a PGA Fellow Professional — the PGA's highest tier — and holds a rare TPI certification stack combining Level 3 and Junior Level 2. Only four golf professionals in the UK hold this exact combination.
